Mr Anselm Agwunobi is a Consultant General Surgeon at The Alexandra Hospital Cheadle and Stockport NHS Foundation Trust. Mr Agwunobi is the Lead Consultant Surgeon for upper GI surgery for Stockport NHS Foundation Trust and regularly performs advanced laparoscopic surgery both in his NHS practice and in the private sector.

Mr Agwunobi commenced postgraduate surgical training in the UK in 1991. He trained as a general surgeon in the Manchester region and is now a fully qualified and accredited general surgeon with interests in gastrointestinal surgery, obesity surgery and advanced laparoscopic surgery.

A period of research at Hope Hospital Salford led to a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Manchester in 2001.

Mr Agwunobi regularly performs laparoscopic gastric banding for obesity and laproscopic gastric bypass as part of a multi-disciplinary obesity surgery team at the Alexandra Hospital Cheadle.

His other clinical interests include hernia surgery including laparoscopic repairs, laparoscopic surgery for hiatus hernia, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, gallstone diseases (cholecystectomy).
