Profile

Mr Decadt qualified at the Leuven University in Belgium in 1992 and worked for 3 years in South Africa, where he became Registrar in General Surgery. He continued his surgical training in the UK and obtained FRCSI in 1997. He is now appointed as a Consultant General and Upper GI Surgeon at the Stockport NHS Foundation Trust.

His specialist interests are laparoscopic and upper gastro intestinal surgery. He performs laparoscopic cholecystectomy and bile duct exploration, laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery, inguinal and hiatus hernia repair and laparoscopy for acute or chronic abdominal pain. He performs laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding for the treatment of morbid obesity.

This is a safe, adjustable, reversible day-case procedure, which may literally give the patient a new life by addressing the problems of morbid obesity, these are fourfold:

• Reduced life expectancy
• Medical diseases (diabetes, high blood pressure, gastro oesophageal reflux disease, asthma, sleep apnoea, hip and knee problem.
• Physical limitations
• Social isolation

In cancer surgery he performs open gastrectomy and oesophagectomy, laparoscopic staging, lymphadenectomy or biopsy and is being mentored in laparoscopic gastrectomy and oesophagectomy.
