The Dietetic Department at The Alexandra Hospital provides a team approach for patients undergoing weight loss surgery.

We offer initial dietary assessment prior to surgery and long-term post-operative advice and support. Should you choose a non-surgical approach we provide a comprehensive, personal tailored dietary regime. This includes menu planning, food labelling advice, and links to exercise programmes and ongoing support and monitoring.

Our specialised weight loss surgery team ensures you receive high quality care supported by specialist equipment and facilities to meet your needs.

Mrs Chris Saint: Chief Dietician

I qualified in 1977, and joined the Alex in 1996. I have had numerous posts but always maintained an interest in obesity. I currently manage the dietetic team, and have been involved in the development of our bariatric service. I am a member of the BDA (British Dietetic Association). I attended the bariatric surgery course for surgeons and theatre teams (approved by BOSS - British Obesity Surgery Society) and I am a member of BOSPA (British Obesity Surgery Patients Association).

Mrs Louise Thurstan: Senior Diecitian

I am a state registered Dietitian with a specialist interest in obesity and bariatric surgery. I qualified in 2000 and worked in various hospitals in the NHS until I joined the Alex team in 2003. I am a member of the North West obesity interest group. In 2005 I attended the bariatric surgery course for surgeons and theatre teams (approved by BOSS) and I am a member of BOSPA and the BDA.

Mrs Tracy Hancock: Senior Diecitian

I qualified as a state registered Dietitian in 1986 at Surrey University. I have worked in a variety of settings, both hospital and community based. I started at The Alex in 2000 but continue to work in the NHS as well, providing training for primary care staff on weight management. I am a member of the BDA and BOSPA and have been involved in the production of a comprehensive booklet of dietary advice for patients following bariatric surgery.
